Policy and Procedures

Thank you for your interest in Immortal Impressions. We are a family owned and operated studio. We work hard to provide you with the best possible tattoo experience therefore we do reserve the right to refuse any tattoo or individual that we feel may compromise our efforts to do so.Our studio offers a unique tattoo experience that differs from standard shops. We are not a walk in shop where you come in to pick your design out of one of our flash design books. We have taken a more personal approach to our tattooing and we hope the following information will help to answer any questions you might have and guide you through our studio procedures. Thanks and we look forward to tattooing you.

Our Procedures

1) Questions - We know there is alot to consider when getting a tattoo therefore we have provided a lot of information below that we hope will help to answer many of the questions you might have. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to email us any time at immortalimpressions@rogers.com

Email messages are returned frequently throughout the day seven days a week. We aim to return all emails within 24 hours. There is a phone at the shop however we do not have a receptionist. The artists are usually busy tattooing and are therefore unable to answer the phone. There is an answering machine however emailing is your best option to contact us. Please do not drop in to speak to an artist as we are busy tattooing and will not stop to assist you as it is unfair to our tattoo client who is paying for our time at that moment. If you wish to come in to speak to an artist please email us to arrange a consultation appointment with the artist of your choice.

2) Booking a consultation - Most tattoos that require drawing or cover ups will require a consultation with an artist. If you know what you want tattooed, where you want it and the size you want it you are probably ready for a consultation. If you already have a design picked out and would like a price on it you can email it to us along with a description of the size you would like it, colour or black and grey and the location where you would like to put it. If you are unsure of size and placement you might be best to book a consultation. Consultations are booked with the artist who will be doing your artwork and your tattoo. We will not draw generic tattoos that can easily be found on the internet such as a star or a font. There are many websites where you can easily find these designs. If you need assistance with finding a website please email us and we will gladly point you in the right direction. If you are unsure of what you want or can’t explain it then chances are you are not ready for a consultation. If you are unsure if you require a consultation please email us before booking one. There is no charge for consultations however we do ask that you keep them to a maximum of 15 minutes. Please be on time for your appointment as chances are there is another appointment in right after you. If you require more than 15 minutes to speak to an artist please let us know ahead of time and we will book accordingly.

3) On the day of the consultation
: On the day of your consultation please bring along pictures, sketches and/or references to show the artist your ideas. The artist will sit down with you to discuss options, prices, design ideas and can answer any questions you might have. We will require a cash deposit of $60 before any drawing commences or tattoo appointments are booked. Larger pieces may require a larger deposit. The artist will let you know at the time of the consultation. Please note the studio only accepts CASH . There are no debit or credit machines on premises. Your deposit will come off of the price of your tattoo at the final sitting. If you have a budget please let the artist know as this will help them when designing your tattoo.

4) Artwork: Once we have received your deposit your artwork will be put in motion. Please note that our artists design your artwork in their spare time and it will be completed in a priority sequence. If you have not booked a tattoo appointment you could be waiting several weeks or months for your artwork as booked appointments always take priority. Your artwork will be completed prior to your appointment to allow for changes if necessary.Once your artwork is completed you will be emailed a non-coloured/shaded line art version of your artwork. You may be required to come in for sizing at the artist’s request. Please note we do not have the time to colour and shade each and every tattoo design that we draw. If we did this we wouldn’t have any time to tattoo :)

5) Booking your tattoo: Our schedule is generally quite busy so I would recommend booking your tattoo once you’ve had your consultation. If you are going to require more than one session I would recommend booking all of them in advance. If we book more time than anticipated we can always alter your appointments as your tattoo progresses. We would rather book you too much time than not enough. If you would rather wait and book once the design is completed please be aware that you might be waiting quite some time for your artwork and to get in for an appointment.

6) On the day of your tattoo: We try to always be on time for our appointments. Occasionally things happen and we are late starting on your tattoo. Don’t worry you will only be charged for the amount of time we spend tattooing you. We recommend wearing something comfortable where we can easily access the area we are tattooing. If you are unsure what to wear email us for suggestions. Please note that tattoo ink does not come out of clothing easily. Be sure to bring enough CASH to pay for your quoted session. If you are unsure of how much money to bring email us for a quote prior to the appointment. If you show up for your appointment and decide to change your design you will be charged for the time spent redrawing/revising on the spot. For freehand work the clock starts as soon as we start drawing on you, not tattooing you. When your tattoo is finished the artist will ask you to inspect your completed tattoo. They will ask you if there is anything else you would like added, changed etc. This would be the time to mention if you would like something darker, more colour, added on to etc. Once you leave any changes will require an additional set up fee and will not be counted as a free touch up. We will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your tattoo. We strongly recommend following our aftercare as not doing so will forfeit our touch up guarantee.

I got my tattoo a few days ago and the skin is very dry and it looks like the tattoo itself is peeling off. Is this normal?

Yes this is normal. The epidermis (top layers of skin) will shed due to the trauma of the tattooing process. The actual tattoo is in the dermis (your permanent underskin) and is not affected by this shedding and/or flaking as long as you don’t pick at it or prematurely remove the skin. Follow your aftercare and it will heal fine.

I plan on getting bigger and more muscular in the future. Will this stretch out or ruin my tattoo?

A tattoo becomes part of your flesh- therefore if your skin grows or stretches, the tattoo does as well. If you are prone to stretch marks, you may see some in your tattoo. Otherwise it shouldn't distort too much, especially if you grow or work out proportionally. If you know you will be getting A LOT bigger (building huge muscle mass or even getting pregnant) it is best to not get a very rigid shaped tattoo such as a perfect circle or square design, as it can show more distortion. Remember in most cases, a tattoo can always be touched up if needed as well.

Is it OK to workout or play sports right after I get tattooed?

Yes most sports can be played however extra precautions might need to be followed to prevent damage to your fresh tattoo. Be your own judge and only do what is comfortable. If it hurts your tattoo or if you don’t feel up to it then stop. Listen to your body, it will tell you what it is capable of. Also be careful not to impact you fresh tattoo or you could damage it. If you are unsure email us for assistance.

Are there any things I shouldn’t do after getting tattooed?

Refer to our after care page

How far in advance do I need to book my tattoo appointment?

Is all of your equipment sterilized?

All of our instruments are subjected to autoclave sterilization – the same process that responsible hospitals and dental offices use. The autoclave is spore tested weekly to ensure it is in proper working order and these results are on display on the wall above the front counter. We do not use these items until we have comfirmation from the lab that they passed the sterilization test. This ensures that all of our equipment is 100% sterilized. Items or areas that are impossible to sterilize in this manner are covered by plastic barriers which are disposed of at the end of the procedure. The items/areas are then cleaned with a disinfectant solution which eliminates all bacteria and diseases. All needles that we use are single use and disposed of after each procedure. We are Health Board inspected and, in fact at our last inspection we received a perfect score. This documentation is proudly displayed on the wall beside the front door. We pride ourselves on our sterilization and cleanliness, and strive to ensure that we are always steps ahead of the standard.

Can I get an epidural if I have a tattoo on my back?

Although some anesthesiologists may be reluctant to perform an epidural directly through a tattoo, most of the time this can be done safely. It is always best to ask an anesthesiologist at your hospital to discuss this concern.

What methods of payment do you accept?

CASH ONLY -- You may pay by EMT (electronic money orders) when booking appointments over the email. Tattoos are paid for in cash only. We do not have Debit or Credit machines on the premises. .
